The holiday season is upon us. It is a time for feasting, shopping, baking, social gatherings, and so much more. And a time that is filled with warmth, magic, love, and community. But, as you are enjoying your family traditions, have you given any thought to those who aren’t as fortunate? You know, those who have no feast and have no home. Those who have felt the cold and lost the magic. Those who make up the homeless population of our world.
At ALH|Podland, we spend so much time helping people with their own homes – buying, selling, managing – that it only makes sense for us to help those who don't have a home! That is why we have decided to partner with Gwinnett County’s Home of Hope.
Gwinnett County, Georgia – part of the Atlanta Metro area – has one of the largest homeless populations in the state. And, believe it or not, children make up a huge percentage of this number. Despite the reason for the homelessness, no child deserves to go to sleep at night without a warm bed to call their own. With a primary focus on children, single mothers, and girls aging out of the foster care system, Home of Hope knows that you cannot pull someone off the street and make a permanent change without having a plan in place. In fact, they call these “Life Plans” and they are individually designed to meet the all- around needs of a child while helping single mothers take definitive action to secure and maintain a home – for good. This is their way to help end homelessness one family at a time. Home of Hope seeks not to be a just a place of temporary shelter. In fact, they say, “We take our guests from homeless, to hopeful, to a home of their own.”
This is a job that cannot be done alone. For 30 years, Home of Hope has been working with volunteers willing to donate time, money, and supplies to help take on this gigantic task. They have touched countless lives and their impact on the community has been substantial.
Recognizing the positive change in those who have been blessed with the assistance of Home of Hope is why we at ALH|Podland want to do our part to help them continue to make an impact – one family at a time.
Before you do anything else, take a moment to listen to Tomika’s story above. If you are touched by what you see, please join us in supporting this wonderful organization. In addition to Home of Hope, ALH|Podland is also currently working to secure an orphanage to sponsor in the Ukraine. The children of that country are in a dire situation – and starving, left with no family, abused, and not wanted by anyone. At ALH|Podland, we want to do our part. We believe that no child should be left on the streets or go hungry when the world is full of the resources to end it – and it starts with people like you.
